Saskatoon's Biggest ToolBox Has everything you will need when laying the foundation for your New Patio and Walkway
August is here and you have decided to install a new stone patio and walkway. Preparing a good base is crucial to your project. Once you have decided on the size and design of your project you can begin the excavation.
Safety First…make sure all phone, gas and power lines have been marked. Once you are ready to begin, make sure you have your rental equipment reserved. Skidsteers & plate tampers will make the job easier and you will complete the job on time.
The depth of your patio and walkway project can be anywhare from 6-8” to allow for a proper foundation for your patio stones or paving stones. Once you have excavated the area you are working in with the skidsteer, you are ready to add the sand base material.
Take your time doing this. The more time you spend on the base, the easier the project will go. Compact your base sand in layers, about every 4” will work to create a strong base for your project. Use a screed bar to help you levelling your project. If your base sand is dry, you can spray some water on it each time before you use the plate tamper to help with compaction and lower the dust raised.
Always consult with your local dealer of your stone products for more information on laying your base and the best products to use.
