Where does BGSA get the money, to run such a busy practice?
At least once a month, I get asked, do I have to pay for this procedure or does my Alberta Health Care (AHC) cover it? Whether it be AHC or another provincial health program, as long as your number is valid, the province will cover the cost of most procedures performed at our office. Through the Alberta Medical Association, Diagnostic Imaging, is governed by a Schedule of Medical Benefits (SOMB) which covers the cost. Unfortunately, MRI procedures are not in this SOMB, that is why patients have to pay.
What does BGSA do with all this
money?
Each procedure, whether it be an x-ray of your little toe or an Ultrasound for your pregnancy, has a fee value governed by the previously mentioned SOMB. All moneys generated through the SOMB procedures, we perform, go back into paying operating expenses, such as Radiologist/staff salaries, offices/medical supplies and the purchase of the equipment used to perform these procedures. BGSA have been very effective in controlling these cost, so we can continue to offer more services, so our citizens can receive their health care locally.
