Saskatoon Lingerie & Custom Bra Fitters - Angela Craig

http://theexperts.ca/blog/2016/11/18/saskatoon-lingerie-custom-bra-fitters-angela-craig/

Many people do not understand the concept of “value for dollars”. In this world economy watching our budgets and spending our dollars wisely on good quality items is what we are talking about this issue.

You should never cheap out on a good bra. A good bra can take a thrift store dress and make it look like a million bucks. Just ask my daughter who found this perfect little black party dress for $10 bucks and she put a good bra underneath and vavoom! She looked fabulous and it perked the dress up.

The old saying of “you get what you pay for” really does apply to bras and panties.

When you buy a bra from Bodacious Bustlines you should get at least a good year out of it in the $60 - $80 dollar range. When you get into your better quality or mid to high price range, $90 - $160 you will get a good 2 year wear out of it, as long as you care and wash your bras properly. Many of our customers look after their bras really well and we see them 4 years later for new bras and the old bras still look in good condition.

So back to understanding value for dollars. This is a concept my mom taught me as I grew up. She was a single mom of three kids on a teachers income. When she bought good clothes she taught me, how many wears are you going to get for the money you spend on it. So when I look at my Maxine bra I get about 2 years out of this bra and I wear them every week. $88 dollars divided by 104 weeks is .84 cents. Pennies ladies pennies.

Now take a cocktail dress which is a $200 - $400 touch or way more and you only wear it 2 - 3 times that is an expensive purchase.

So when you come in saying oh bras are so expensive, they really are not and we wear them almost everyday all day long. Again do not cheap out on your foundation garments. I have a really expensive Italian thong that is 8 years old and I still wear it a couple times a month and it still looks good. $84 thong = $8.40 a year and no I do not have attachment issues. We do offer the extra service of repairing your bras for FREE that are bought from our stores. With in reason! If the dog chews it in half you are on your own. Many of you have popped a wire or broken a wire, we fix that for free. Loose weight, we can take them in and take up straps for free. Repair back hooks, sliders or minor tears that we do for free.

If your bras are loved to death with no elastic left in them, it is time to upgrade girls. This is where we offer the recycle program of bring in your old worn out bras (from wherever) and you receive 10% off your new regular priced replacement bra.

So added value to your purchase is also very important to look for in added services provided by stores.

We have been conditioned over the past 2 decades to be the super consumer and buy cheap disposable products at reduced prices and now it is biting us in the butts. Buying 4 bras at $40 bucks each and getting 4 months wear out of them is $40 bucks a month, not good value for dollars spent. I do know this for a fact as many customers make this comment that their bras bought elsewhere stretch out in 4 months……ours should not! There is your little financial tip in bra shopping 101.

Have a boobalicious day. Angela.

Adopting a Cat?

Adopting a new cat is very exciting but before you go and pick up your new pet you need to decide if you want an older cat or a kitten. Both are loving, wonderful pets but they have different needs based on their age and maturity level. Let's look at the key differences between the two so you can make a well-informed decision.

Ball of Energy

Kittens have energy to burn. They bring life into a house with their constant running, chasing and playing. Kittens will have you laughing as they chase their tails for hours. They are bundles of fun to play with. Kittens can be mischievous though, so they need to be properly supervised to avoid breaking anything in your home or injuring themselves. If you prefer a quieter house, an older cat is a better option for you. Older cats are calmer, quieter and not as rambunctious. An older cat will adjust more easily to his new home, will often be more affectionate and will love to sit on your lap for hours. If you have  small children in your home, an older cat may not want to play as much as your children do and may have less patience.  You need to determine what works best for your family and for your new pet.

Financial Impact

Both older cats and kittens need certain items – such as a litter box, litter, collar, toys, treats and food. Just make sure you buy toys, treats and food that are suitable for your cat's age and lifestyle. For example, while kittens love a toy that they can bat around and chase, older cats need a little more enticement to play, so a catnip toy would be appropriate. Either way, you will need to purchase some essentials for your new pet. Another factor that will affect your wallet is veterinary bills. While a kitten can be given a clean bill of health, there are still expenses that will come up in the first few years of your kitten's life, such as vaccinations and spaying/neutering. Once those vaccinations are complete, the financial commitment decreases significantly with a new kitten. With older cats the initial monetary commitment can be much less. Most often they are already up to date in vaccinations, spayed or neutered and sometimes declawed. Down the road there are potential health concerns with older cats, such as bad gums or diabetes, but you can help prevent some health issues with certain foods and regular exercise. In both cases, for kittens and older cats, prevention is the key to keeping them healthy and the veterinary bills to a minimum. Keeping up to date with vaccinations and annual veterinary appointments is a great way to prevent any future health issues and ensure your cat lives a long, healthy life.

Wherefore Art

Thou Litter Box?

Older cats are often already trained to use a litter box. While the type of litter you use may be different than what they are used to, they know that their business should be done inside a litter box. When adopting your mature cat, be sure to ask what type of litter they are used to (clay? clumping? wheat? scented?) and slowly transition your cat to whatever litter you will be buying.

Kittens will most likely need to be trained to use the litter box. Initially, when you bring your kitten home, immediately take her to the litter box. If she does not start digging in the litter, help her move her little paws in a digging motion. Cats instinctively will bury their waste so simulating digging will let her know that this is where you want her to do her business. Some kittens pick up on it right away and some kittens take a few weeks; try to be patient as this is something completely new to your kitten. If your kitten is taking a little longer, it may be smart to pick up some Stain & Odor Remover!

Both older cats and kittens benefit from their litter box being placed in a safe, quiet and private place, but you also want it to be accessible for both you and your cat. Try not to place it near your cat's food and water bowls and don't forget to scoop it out frequently. Make use of these tips and you and your cat are on your way to litter box success!

Why Do Headlights Become Hazy, Cloudy or Yellowed?

You may clean and keep your car in top shape, but perhaps you notice that your headlights are becoming fogged up despite your best efforts to keep them clean. So, why do headlights become hazy, cloudy or yellowed even when you keep them clean?

Plastic

There was a time when headlights were made of glass. Those days are long gone. They are now made of hard plastics that are specifically tempered for the job. This material is known as polycarbonate plastic. It is very strong, but it also is naturally porous. To combat this, the manufacturer of your headlights covered them with a protective film. The film works well for a few years, but then starts to degrade. Given the fact it is exposed to heat from the bulb, UV rays from constant exposure to the sun and harsh chemicals that come up off the road, it probably should not be a surprise that the film eventually fades. Regardless, this allows the plastic to become oxidized, which gives the headlights the foggy look.

Big Problem

Most people believe the foggy headlight is a problem simply because for cosmetic reasons. While this is definitely true, there is also a safety issue involved. The oxidation of the plastic headlight causes the light output from the internal bulbs to be diffused. This effectively means that the beam from each headlight is weakened, and produces a reduced area of coverage. The less you can see, the more chance there is of you having an accident.

Solutions

The first thought you might have when it comes to fixing your headlights is simply to buy new ones. The cost for this can be both significant and unnecessary for you. Fortunately, there is another option that is nowhere near as expensive and it works very will most of the time.

Our headlamp restoration system repairs any hazy, yellow or cloudy headlight. The key is to remove the damaged film and replace it with a protective coating that will return the headlight to its original condition.

You don't need to go out and spend hundreds of dollars on replacements if your headlights have become yellow, hazy or cloudy. With our system, you can spend a fraction of the price and have your headlights looking – and seeing – like-new once again.

“I don't need a flu shot”, healthcare professionals hear this from patients all the time. Healthy adults often believe there is no need to get an annual flu shot because they “never get sick”, and if they do, it only lasts a few days. Yet, influenza is a serious and sometimes deadly illness that affects many Canadians each year, especially children and elderly people.

Unfortunately, there is no effective treatment for influenza, meaning people must suffer through the illness until their body can get rid of the virus. Most people infected will experience fever, chills, exhaustion, muscle aches, and a cough. Loss of appetite, vomiting, diarrhea, and a sore throat are also common, leaving the infected person feeling under the weather for as long as two weeks. Not fun! This is why prevention is key.

Influenza is spread by infected particles in the air and by direct contact with contaminated objects or people. Prevention can come in several ways, specifically, maintaining good personal hygiene and handwashing, taking extra precaution around individuals who are at high risk, and getting a flu shot. Prevention strategies will not only help keep you healthy, but also those around you. Hand washing with warm soap and water is an effective way to reduce the spread of influenza, especially when coming into contact with those who are already ill.

Although handwashing is important, the single best way to prevent influenza is to get a vaccination annually in the fall. Influenza is a virus that is continuously mutating (changing), meaning the virus is not the same from year to year. This is why it is necessary to get a flu shot annually. Flu vaccinations are made with the three most common strains (types) of the virus that are predicted for that particular year. This is the reason it is possible to still get sick with the flu even after you have had a flu shot, although unlikely. Fortunately, those who have had a flu shot and still get sick will have symptoms that are less severe than had they not received the vaccination at all.

It is true that some people are more likely to get the flu than others, and some people may not experience the flu as harshly, but this does not mean that people with stronger immune systems should opt out of getting the flu shot. In our busy lives, we are constantly coming into contact with a diverse range of people, many of which are individuals who may become severely sick if infected by the influenza virus. By getting the flu shot, you are protecting children, grandparents, pregnant women, and loved ones who have chronic (long-term) illnesses.

Are you trying to think of some reasons not to get the flu shot? Unless you have had a severe allergic reaction to previous flu shots, or a medical condition where your physician has instructed you not to receive the flu shot, you should get the flu vaccination. In fact, the flu shot is recommend for people who have heart conditions, breathing illnesses (asthma, COPD), Type 1 or Type 2 Diabetes, immune disorders, and other chronic illnesses. This is because these people are more likely to have complications and/or a more serious response to the infection, which could result in hospitalization.

Are you scared of needles? A nasal spray vaccination is now available to those individuals who have needle phobias. Available on request, it is a safe and effective way to protect yourself from the influenza virus.

Lastly, the influenza vaccination does not cause the flu, or any other illness. Vaccinations are a hot topic in the news, and many celebrities and public figures are claiming that they cause intellectual disabilities in infants and children. There is no evidence of the flu shot causing any serious disease or condition, and it is recommended that people of all ages get the vaccine.

Why do we hear so much about Winterizing? Does a car really need to get ready for winter when it's made of metal, plastic, rubber, and various fluids? Yes, and no. For our industry things change seasonally for the most part, and that is pretty perfect for vehicle maintenance.

First off, no, the metal in your vehicle doesn't need to winterized, assuming that the manufacturing process went properly. Plastic can become brittle so that's something to go easy on, but nothing really needs to be done. Rubber, well, we hope people put the right tires on for the winter and summer (there's nothing quite like the sound of studded tires on a scorching August day, please remember to change between the seasons).

But the fluids! Ah yes, something we know a bit about. Most of your vehicles fluids are made for cold weather. However, if the fluids are old, and you've driven a lot during the warmer months, fluids can break down losing their additives. That's when winter can harm your vehicle.

For your motor oil we always recommend synthetic because our climate stays in the “optimum” driving conditions for about 3.6 days per year. Synthetic performs the best in +30° and -30°.

Changing it when the seasons change is the best way of making sure the additives, waxes, cleaning agents, etc., do what they need to.

Coolant, also known as anti-freeze, is important to monitor during extreme weather fluctuations. It can break down and lose its potency, potentially only working to -10°, which isn't ideal for the days it goes to -20°. We check that!

Windshield washer fluid is perhaps the cheapest fluid in your car, but is the most important to change for summer and winter. Summer formula is water with detergents for getting bug guts off. Winter formula has alcohol in it to prevent it from freezing, which can lead to cracked and leaking reservoirs.

Transmission fluids, power steering fluids, brake fluids, and transfer case and differential fluids should all be rated for all weather, but again, the older the fluid the less it's doing for you. If you don't know when you last had any of those changed, we can check them!

Come by Lubrication Station to help your vehicle get through the cold weather. We check as much as we can on a car and only recommend what is actually needed.

We also have coffee and hot chocolate for your car's passengers to survive the winter.

There's always a must-have accessory that EVERYONE is obsessed with. Right now, it's all about the poncho! They're warm and cozy but stylish and chic. Some are long, cropped, colorful, and classic but every style gives such a “I know what I'm doing”look.I don't know what it is, you put on a poncho and suddenly you feel more chic and put together. It works well with nearly everything in your wardrobe. Ponchos can be tailored for a chic, formal and or professional style or bohemian in thicker knits, colourful patterns, and or tassels and fringes.

Although ponchos can appear to be an easy item to wear, it's important that you choose a poncho that fits your frame. Make sure that it is not too small or to big but that it fits your frame, otherwise you will drown in it.

Necklines such as cowl neck, turtleneck, V-neck, scoop-neck, crew-neck, and boat neck are great as they frame your face and upper body. Whereas, boat necks and crew necks tend to make the chest and shoulders look wider, but are perfect if you have narrow shoulders or a small bust.V-necks are especially good for women with broad shoulders or a large bust, as it has a slimming effect. If you have a longer neck, go for a turtleneck that has a shortening effect through the neck and face.

If you want to elongate your frame, opt for a poncho that falls, no lower than just above your knee.

Petite ladies should be aware of long ponchos as they will overwhelm your shorter stature. The fine knit triangle shaped poncho,in a shorter length,is perfect for smaller frames.

Since the poncho's popularity is booming, it's time to take advantage of its benefits this season. The only rule necessary to keep in mind when wearing a poncho is that the large volume that it gives you on top, must be offset by a slim/minimalist style on the bottom. The poncho is popular simply because it's so easy to wear. It goes with everything. One size fits all. It's never too tight. Season after season, ponchos retain their “go to” popularity in our wardrobes – from cool summer nights, to the coldest days in December. They make the perfect in-between-days outerwear when it's just a little too warm to wear a coat. Juanita actually finds it warmer than a fall coat as the arms are closer to the body and it seems more effective blocking the wind. She's been a poncho lover since her early 20s! It's also easier to layer, as fits over bulkier sweaters, whereas is much more constricting trying to get that sweater into a coat.

Wear your poncho with narrow fitted pants, skinny jeans, leggings, pencil skirts, and slim-fitting miniskirts paired with knee-high boots, ankle boots, and high heels for a chic look. Keep your accessories modest, especially if your poncho is your statement piece. Keep chunky jewellery to rings and or bracelets. Switch up your shoulder or larger bag, for a clutch or a small crossover bag as will be less bulky underneath your poncho.

There are few wardrobe staples that look as good with your casual wear as they do dressed up with heels, but ponchos are the exception.

Here are just a few reasons why we think it will be a great addition to your wardrobe this season:

  • It's fun and trendy. The poncho or cape will add a modern touch to your wardrobe.

  • They are slimming, and camouflage perceived body imperfections

  • A poncho is super comfortable

  • Wear it both indoors and outdoors: another advantage of a lightweight poncho is that you can both wear it inside the house as well as outdoors. Not all days are super cold and some days a thicker knit sweater with a poncho will do the trick.

Ask the Health Food Expert – Dr. Kate Rheame-Bleue

Beat the Bug: 5 natural ways to stay healthy this winter

Kate Rhéaume-Bleue is a doctor of naturopathic medicine, a writer, and an educator. A graduate and former faculty member of the Canadian College of Naturopathic Medicine, Dr. Rhéaume-Bleue is an Expert® in natural medicine and lectures across Canada on topics related to health and wellness. She is the author of the book Vitamin K2 and the Calcium Paradox: How a Little-Known Vitamin Could Save Your Life.

Our first line of defense against colds and the flu is a group of white blood cells that make up our “innate” immune system. Simple actions can help or hinder their work. Here's a list of tips that will reduce your exposure to winter bugs and enourage your immune system to do its job better.

Hand washing. The hand is quicker than the sneeze in the spread of seasonal illness. Frequent hand washing reduces your exposure to cold and flu viruses.

Do the D. It's no coincidence that incidence of colds and the flu peak in the dark winter months.  Supplementing with vitamin D has been shown to reduce the number of days lost to winter illness.

Take probiotics. Studies show that people who supplement with probiotics have fewer, shorter and less severe colds and flu. A recent trial showed that preschoolers who took probiotics missed less school and had fewer visits to the doctor for colds.

Reach for zinc. Got a tickle in your throat? It's a good time for zinc lozenges. People who take zinc supplements recover from cold symptoms days faster compared to placebo. Our intestines limit the amount of zinc we absorb, but you can achieve a short-tem zinc load with sublingual lozenges.

Try tongue-tingling Echinacea. Echinacea must be extracted from fresh, not dried, plants for maximum efficacy. However few companies have ability to do this. Echinamide is a patented extract of Echinacea, grown in the Okanagan Valley of British Columbia, extracted fresh and standardized to three active ingredients. The actives are blended in a specific ratio that has been clinically proven to help combat winter illness. It is available in a wide range of products, including Natural Factors Anti-Viral Formula, a natural medicine cabinet must-have.

Did you know that there is a resurgence of fashions being produced in Canada?  With our low Canadian Dollar, and cost of shipping so high, smaller designers are finding it is feasible to produce their designs in our country.  This is great news, because not only does it bolster the economy with more jobs, and the spin offs of running factories here, it also means clothing that makes sense to Canadians.

There is a current trend to buy less and buy better.  What that means is that you can be happier with fewer pieces if they are quality fabric, and fit you perfectly.  Aren't you sick of limp, pilled clothes that only looked good the first couple of times you wore them?  Can you say that you love every piece in your closet?

PrimaDeanna is excited to be carrying the latest designs from Raspberry Apparel!  Raspberry is designed and produced in Regina!  Offering you the best quality fabrics, in easy care separates for work and leisure.  They have been a hit at local sales like Bazaart, and Divas in the Park.  Now you can shop for Raspberry anytime at PrimaDeanna Boutique!

Regina Basement Works - Jamon Selinger

Ask-the-Basement-and-Concrete-Repair-Expert-–-Jamon-Selinger

Basement Wall Bracing

Are your foundation walls cracking?

Most sub grade soil in Regina is highly plastic, potentially active type clay. This type of soil will undergo large volume changes when the water content increases or decreases in the clay. These volume changes combined with lateral soil pressures and deterioration due to aging exerts a sufficient amount of force to cause cracking and inward movement. Other contributing factors are tree roots, insufficient steel in concrete, water from leaky plumbing, mud jacking and poor drainage. If your walls have horizontal of vertical cracks causing inward movement to your foundation walls, JS Basement Works can protect them with engineered steel bracing designs that guarantee your wall from further movement.

Regina Electrical works – Russel Fossum

Winter Power Hog

Halloween is over which means the holidays are officially here. That means the relatives are on their way and you'll be using your large appliances more often causing your electric bill to look scary long after Halloween has ended. Don't let the increase in relative visits and vampire electric devices drive up the electric bill.

To keep the electric bill down, remember to only use the dishwasher when it is full. Running the dishwasher when it is only half full will amount to a lot more energy consumption.

Items like washers and dryers are guilty of consuming more energy during the holidays too. Washing clothes in cold water and setting the dryer on low heat will help in reducing the electric bill.

Knowing when to say goodbye to your old system is another way to save on energy. Older appliances run up the electric bill. If you have an appliance that is over 10 years old, consider replacing it with a newer, energy efficient model.

It is also a good idea to have all large household appliances connected to their own dedicated circuit. To many of these large appliances operating at the same time on the same circuit can cause a blown fuse or a tripped breaker. A dedicated circuit for each large electrical household appliance will keep this from happening.

Lastly, don't let your everyday electrical devices like laptops, cell phones or tablets get greedy and hog the power outlets. Only charge these items when they need it.

You'll have enough to worry about as the holidays set in. Take the electric bill off the list by doing these simple energy savings tips from Fossum Electric. Halloween is over which means the holidays are officially here. That means the relatives are on their way and you'll be using your large appliances more often causing your electric bill to look scary long after.

Red Deer Health Adviser - Cheryl Markovich

natural Health

We can eat right, exercise right, drink adequate water, and even sleep enough, but if we are lacking this one vital element in health, we will still be fatigued.  We will strive to work harder and attain more, but enjoy it less.  What is it that is so vital to our physical, emotional, spiritual, mental and attitudinal health that we will die young without it?  What is that electromagnetic energy produced by the brain and the heart and based on our thoughts?

Most of us are aware of the powerful mind-body connection and how our thoughts affect our health; but nothing is as powerful as this one thing in changing that.

What is it?  GRATITUDE!

The #1 thing an attitude of gratitude will do is increase our energy.

The healthiest happiest people I see in the Clinic are grateful, in spite of their circumstances.  They have healthier immune systems because they worry less and their stress is lower.  They overcome inflammation in the body by having improved digestive systems.  They are able to shut off the sympathetic nervous system, or their high-alert fight, flight or retreat system.  When the body is in constant alert mode there is no natural ability to heal the internal organs because the blood supply is directed to limbs to fight or run away!  This causes premature aging and early burn out.  We place ourselves at risk for all the common chronic degenerative diseases including arthritis, diabetes, cancer, heart disease, stroke and numerous neurological brain disorders.  While in this epidemic stress condition, this has become a way of life that has trained people to focus on problems.  Because our focus determines our experiences, without gratitude, life becomes one of doom, gloom and depression.  Opportunities for advancement and a great life will pass us by unnoticed.

Grateful people are optimistic.  They have hope and they have faith that things can and will change.   They expect great things and do not live in fear.  They are content and do not have a lack mentality.  They have the right focus on life, the right priorities and don't beat themselves up when they make a mistake.  This reduces strife and chaos and builds self-worth in a huge way.  A grateful attitude also affects the people around us and draws to us the things we desire.  Gratitude keeps our focus off the problem or the people causing the problem.  Grateful people don't get drawn into everyone else's drama and trauma.  Why?   Because they have the emotional energy to repel strife and stay focused on the positive.  Healthy people attract healthy people.  Living unselfishly promotes feelings of self worth, belonging, and peacefulness while the opposite produces feelings of rejection, bitterness and unworthiness.

We are all responsible for how we feel at any given moment.  What are we creating?   Good health or miserable disease?

We can all begin today by doing a little bit of self-evaluation.

How is my energy?

What is my attitude telling me?

How is my health?   My weight?  My relationships?   My

finances?

Am I hopeful?  Optimistic? (in spite of my current situation)

Am I in faith or fear?

Am I content?

Is my faith moving mountains or my fear creating them?

And most important, am I doing things in my life to create an attitude of gratitude, which will bring me my hearts desire in the future.

Red Deer Carpet and Upholstery - Paolo Mancuso

http://theexperts.ca/blog/2016/11/16/red-deer-carpet-upholstery-paolo-mancuso/

Ask the Carpet and Upholstery Cleaning Expert – Paolo Mancuso

Question:  What are ethical cleaning standards?

Answer:  The answer to this question is complicated.  By including the word “ethical” in their advertising, some carpet cleaners are hoping to gain your trust, and hoping you won't notice the questionable value you're getting for their services.  The notion of ethical cleaning is just the latest American-based MULTILEVEL MARKETING program used to lure carpet cleaners, in exchange for the PROMISE OF HIGHER PROFITS.  The phrase “ethical cleaning services” has been trademarked by these marketers.  However, trademarking doesn't guarantee ethical practices!

Mancuso's has actually earned by adjudication the Better Business Bureau Torch Award For Ethics**.  By proxy, we first set the standards for ethics in the carpet cleaning industry.

SEVEN SIGNS OF AN ETHICAL CLEANER

  1. Use of the Benchmark Standard for Thorough Cleaning. For carpets, cleanliness is benchmarked as applying water at sufficient temperature (minimum 140 degrees Fahrenheit) under sufficient pressure (200 to 300 psi) and at a sufficient volume (3-4 gallons per minute), and simultaneously extracting 90 to 95% of the soiled water. The volume of hot water used must exceed the weight of the yarn in order for the yarn to be benchmarked as clean.  In addition to this flushing of the yarn, the cleaning technician must agitate the carpet face to assist in the removal of soiling.  This is a critical component of ethical cleaning, and one which is often side-stepped by carpet cleaners, who claim they are “letting the chemicals do the work.”

  1. Use of Properly Apprenticed Technicians. Too many times, carpet cleaners are trained through 12 hour/2 day courses provided by carpet cleaning chemical and equipment manufacturers, and are coached through the final exams.  Then they receive a token certificate.  This often results in carpet cleaners who learn their skills at your expense.  In this industry, there's the good (well trained and professional), the bad (poorly trained but don't know it), and the ugly (poorly trained and don't care).  An ethical cleaning is much more likely to come from a company who offers extensive training, upholds a reputation in the community, and continually upgrades their skill and knowledge.

  1. No Coupon Baiting or Telephone Solicitation. Coupon baiting is an unethical practise featuring “special” prices that end up costing you two to three times the coupon price. Professional trades don't solicit by calling you at home, so carpet cleaners who use this annoying marketing technique are neither professional nor ethical.

  1. Apples and Oranges: The Charging of Home-Base Business (HBB) Prices. Most carpet cleaners are home-based, so their fair market prices should be reflected in 40% lower pricing than a storefront business.  HBBs just don't want you to know that, and will try to charge you the same as a store front business!!

  2. The Proper Use of Fibre Protectants. You might be surprised to know that many carpets don't benefit significantly from having fibre protectants (also called “Scotchguarding”) applied.  An ethical carpet cleaner explains what benefit (or not) you can expect to receive from a fibre protectant on your carpet.

  1. No Fear Tactics. Some carpet cleaners try to convince you that you should get your carpets cleaned every few months for the health of your family, or that a carpet cleaning will improve your indoor air quality, or that you should let them clean your furnace ducts for the same reason. Ethical practices for normal cleaning of your carpets should not be paired with dire warnings about your family's health.

  1. No Fake Guarantees. An ethical carpet cleaner is not necessarily the one that offers a guarantee to reclean the carpet if you're not satisfied. These “guarantees” come with a high price up front, so that the cleaner is still guaranteed to make big money, even if you call him back two or three times.  An ethical carpet cleaning comes with an up-front discussion of your specific cleaning issues (should you have any) and a realistic appraisal of what a carpet cleaning can and can't do for your situation at a fair market price.

For more information on all of these topics and issues, please visit us at our website at  www.mancusocleaning.com

**Owner and Master Cleaner Paolo Mancuso is also a member of the Alberta Human Ecology and Home Economics Association, and as such is bound by their code of ethics, which requires, among other things, that he provide “competent and responsible service to … clients and the community at large.”

Red Deer Dent Repair - Paul Howard

Ask the Dent Repair Expert – Paul Howard

GET THE BEST RETURN YOU CAN!

Are you looking to sell or trade your vehicle? It's getting time to upsize, downsize, or you just need a change? The lease on your current vehicle has expired?

In every one of these cases, you want to receive the most value that you can for your current vehicle in order to reduce the expense of your new one. We can help you with that!

Every dent and ding, and especially any hail damage, is going to lower the amount that you can get for your car or truck. And usually, when the dealership or other potential buyer is looking it over, they'll want to discount that value by the amount they estimate it will take them to get it into great shape. And that's usually going to be the amount it would cost for conventional repair (which you need, by the way, if we're talking about collision or severe paint damage!).

For most minor dents, door dings, and hail damage, Dent Clinic offers 'The Affordable Alternative'. We massage out these nuisances without sanding, fillers, chemicals, or paint. We undo the damage and eliminate any reason for a buyer to reduce the potential price of your vehicle.

And more money in your pocket should be worth a (free) estimate, shouldn't it?

It's Brain Health Time!

As we move into September some of us have to sharpen up on some cognitive skills that have been put to rest over the summer.  It is back to work or school for a lot of us, including myself.  It's time for schedules, executive decisions and a balancing act for moms with children starting back to school.  Our brain controls it all.  So what happens when our brain is off?  Life is off, including emotions, concentration, memory, relationships, careers and most aspects of health and well being.

After a couple of accidents, which led to concussions and trauma I began to experience some of these symptoms.  This was challenging my ability to function as a wife, mother, grandmother and health leader.  These symptoms put me on a quest for better brain health.  Science has proven that the brain is ever changing itself through a process known as neuroplasticity.  Very encouraging for symptoms of brain fog, memory loss, poor focus and concentration, low energy, insomnia, depression, weight gain and a host of other chronic diseases.  All warning symptoms and early aging degeneration!

These symptoms are all too common in our Clinic.  In observing live and dry blood cell analysis we can identify systemic stress resulting from an overload of toxins in the body and brain.  Toxins may be environmental, nutritional, media induced or just toxic chronic stress resulting in burn out.

Most of us know about cutting out sugars, wheat and processed foods if we want to lose weight and toxicity.  But what we may not know is they release high concentrations of glutamate, a powerful excitotoxin that influences impulsivity, agitation, anxiety, anger, restlessness and aggression.  This brain toxicity leads to inflammation and inflammation equals pain.  What about brain pain?  Depression, anxiety, panic attacks, insomnia, fatigue, headaches, memory problems and many more brain based challenges are the result of brain pain.

Throughout the month of October we are offering specials to get your blood checked and help you make better brain choices.  Choices that will affect all areas of your life and the lives of those you love. Come and learn how to love your brain and stop killing it by running on adrenaline and cortisol (your stress hormone).  Come and learn how forgiveness increases energy, releases stress, depression and addictive cravings.  Learn about the power of forgiveness because without it we become victims. As one professional stated “when we are victims we become 70 years old and still act like 7 year olds!”   Learn about the power of gratitude and how that affects not only your brain but your physical health.   These are just a couple of examples of things you can do to increase your brain health.

Book your appointment today ----- your brain and your pocketbook will love you for it.  You will receive a 20% discount with this article and another discount for all your referrals.  We believe in healthy brains and healthy bodies for a healthy future.

Tankless Water Heaters - is it the right choice for your home?

You may be surprised to know that tankless water heaters have been around for nearly 30 years, especially popular in Asia and Europe.

Also known as “instantaneous”, “flash”, or “on demand”, this unique and efficient method of heating domestic hot water is rapidly gaining popularity, and is becoming a spec appliance in many homes.

In parts of the world where natural gas and propane fuel is a precious (and expensive) resource, tankless heaters are a natural choice.

The Canadian consumer is embracing this “new” technology and are pleasantly surprised at the  benefits these appliances offer.

Tankless heaters will remain “off” or in a dormant state until a hot water tap is opened, which “wakes up” the heater, triggering the gas burners to heat the water as it flows through to the tap outlet, converting cold inlet water to hot water in seconds.

Energy savings are significant, using up to 97% of the heat energy for hot water. Compare this to a tank-style water heater, at 51% or less.

Convenience, reliability, and energy efficiency are 3 great reasons to consider a tankless water heater.

Installed, it usually takes a day or less, and easily adapts to your existing water and gas piping system.

Maintenance is also easily performed, whereas not as easy with a tank-style system.

If it is time to retire your old, tired water tank, consider tankless for your home. The Navien brand is an excellent choice, with great warranties and has proven to me, as a contractor, that they back their product and have a very reliable track record.

Caregivers- Health at Risk

Caring for a loved one with dementia is a daunting task.  The twenty four hour responsibility can take such a toll on the caregiver that the health of the caregiver may be in jeopardy.

Although the desire to care for your loved one may be precipitated by love, devotion, sense of duty or guilt, the stress of the twenty four hour care is more than any one person should have to endure.

Families can wait too long to place a loved one in a care facility, and all too often, only do so when forced by the failing health of the primary caregiver.

Placing a loved one in care should not be perceived as failing to live up to a promise, or duty.  By placing the person with dementia in an appropriate environment it is both beneficial for the individual with dementia and the caregiver.

First the person with dementia is now in an environment that is designed to meet their needs on a twenty four hour basis.  There is a team of staff members trained in the care of individuals with dementia, thus ensuring the person is receiving care based on their abilities and needs. The proper environment and care enables the individual with dementia to function at their optimum ability, feel safe and secure, which in turn gives them the best quality of life.

Second, the caregiver can continue to spend as much time as they want with their loved one in the care facility.  With the physical care of the dementia individual being met, the time spent with their loved one is quality time. The family caregiver is now rested and less stressed. Caring for a loved one until you compromise your health is of no benefit to anyone.  Is it not better to have your loved one in the care of professional caregivers so as to maintain your health?  The toll of being the sole primary care provider of someone with dementia has frightening statistics. Research shows that “78% of primary caregivers will pass away before the individual with dementia.”

Third, small specialized facilities with consistent staffing are better able to provide families with the ongoing support they need.  Families can rely on the experience of the staff to help guide them through the many challenges of having a loved one with dementia. You do not need to go through this journey alone.

Red Deer Beds and Bedding Expert - Jerry Simmering

beds and bedding

Flotation Beds provide one of the best ways to reduce pressure during sleep with its form fitting nature resulting in better weight distribution and lower pressure points. The added comfort from the bed being heated is great on those cooler nights.

Waterbeds primarily consist of two types, hard-sided beds and soft-sided beds.

A hard-sided waterbed consists of a water filled bladder inside a rectangular frame of wood resting on a plywood deck that sits on a platform.

A soft-sided waterbed consists of a water filled bladder inside a rectangular frame of sturdy foam zippered inside a fabric casing which sits on a platform box. It looks like a conventional bed and is designed to fit existing bedroom furniture.

Water beds are normally heated and although temperatures can be set to individual preferences, they are usually run around 30oC

Various water bladder designs are available for either type of waterbed, which allow for a more stable (less water movement) mattress. In many cases a dual bladder is available for King of Queen beds allowing for individual fill and temperature controls.
