Whether we are ready or not, winter is on the way. Below are some pet tips for winter safety.

  • When heading outdoors, short hair and small breed dogs may need to wear a sweater, jacket or booties.

  • After outdoor activities, rinse off paws with warm water. De-icers and salt can be toxic to pets. • Snow clumps can accumulate which will also need to be removed.

  • Make sure your cats and dogs are microchipped. Being lost when temperatures are extremely cold is very dangerous.

  • Antifreeze has a sweet taste to dogs and cats and is very toxic if ingested. Keep all spills and containers cleaned up. Call your veterinarian immediately if you think your pet may have ingested antifreeze.

  • When it's cold outside, outdoor cats may be attracted to a warm car engine. Before starting your vehicle, check under the hood.

The winter season can be enjoyable for everyone but remember, if it's too cold for you outside it is also too cold for your pets outside.
