QUESTION: Many offices are advertising FREE HEARING TESTS. Are Hearing Tests FREE?
Answer:
DON'T be FOOLED! Hearing Tests are not FREE. We have CONTRACTS that pay a FEE for Hearing Tests... So how can they be FREE? A Complete Hearing assessment costs $75.00 to $100.00. And it takes about 1.5 hours. Legally, this TEST is good for Six Months.
A COMPLETE HEARING Test consists of a History, Video Otoscopy, Tympanometry, Pure Tone and Bone Conduction, MASKING if required, numerous WORD Discrimination tests, possible MEDICAL Referrals, etc. The REAL test is done in a SOUND Booth using INSERT Mics. Those Free 5 minute BEEP TESTS are not a Hearing TEST, but merely a simple screen to confirm if the person is below normal.
We do offer a FREE SERVICE called AUDIOSCOPE.
This device Screen tests your hearing in less than a minute. It indicates if further testing is required. But it is not considered a Hearing Assessment from which you can program Hearing Instruments or evaluate the type or extent of a Hearing Loss. It is my opinion, only,...offices that offer FREE Hearing TESTS...should not be able to collect FESS from existing CONTRACTS. DO IT RIGHT.
