Cognitive Behavior Therapy



CBT Basics: The concept behind CBT is very simple, our feelings and thoughts play an essential role in our behaviour. The goal of CBT is to show individuals that they may not be able to control every part of the world around them, but they can take control of how they interpret and deal with situations within their environments.



Components of CBT: People often experience thoughts or feelings that emphasize inaccurate beliefs. Such beliefs can cause problematic behaviours that can affect many aspects of life, including family, romantic relationships, and work. For example, if you suffer from low self-esteem you may think negatively in regards to yourself. This could cause you to avoid social situations. Cognitive Behavioural therapist`s start with functional analysis, which is helping people identify their negative behaviours and how these behaviours affect their lives. Followed by concentrating on the actual behaviours may be contributing to the problem. The individual will learn and practice new skills that then can be used in real world situations. CBT is a gradual process that helps a person take small steps towards altering a behaviour.
