CHRISTMAS CANDLELIGHT SERVICE

SUNDAY, DECEMBER 4, 2016 AT 6:00PM

Special guest speakers who will be sharing their stories of losing their loved ones: Liesa Peters & Janine Melnychuk

HANDLING THE HOLIDAYS

Celebrating Christmas after a death in the family can be a difficult time of the year. The Christmas season is recognized as a time of peace and hope, and a time to be joyous with family and friends. For many, it is also a time which brings back memories of happy times spent with loved ones now gone.

Over the holidays, coming together with others who have experienced the loss of a loved one offers the support of a group of people who can truly empathize.

We at Oliver's Funeral Home recognize that after the loss of a loved one, the season of light and song can be touched with a bittersweet sadness. The lighting of candles and singing of carols has long been a powerful symbol of remembrance. It is our hope that this simple, time-honoured gesture may provide a way of healing the past and bringing music back into your hearts.

We invite everyone to join us for our Candlelight Service at Oliver's Funeral Home on December 4th at 6:00pm and to stay afterwards for a time of fellowship and refreshments served in our Tea Room.

Because we have a video tribute for each loved one that will be missed this holiday season, we ask you to please register by Wednesday, November 30th. You can RSVP online at

or call 780.532.2929. We sincerely hope you are able to join us.

Grande Prairie Tattoo Artist - James Denny

TattooingExpert

MAJOR NO-NOs IN A TATTOO PARLOR...CONTINUED!

  1. Showing Up Intoxicated

You probably aren't fooling anyone when you come in drunk. If pain scares you so much that you need to be intoxicated to show up, a tattoo is not for you. Drunk people are annoying, but it's also incredibly dangerous to tattoo someone under the influence. Pain meds and/or alcohol can thin your blood and make you bleed more. Ew. You'll sign a consent form before you get your tat done, and most include a line that makes you swear you weren't ripping tequila shots before you came in.

  1. Being A Know-It-All

There have definitely been times where I've shown up to my appointment and imagined a different size than the one my artist has drawn. While you shouldn't let anyone pressure you into a tattoo you don't want, your artist is the Expert®, and knows what will fit where / fade fastest / end up smudged. If your artist says that all of the lyrics to “Stairway To Heaven” just won't fit on your calf, believe them and work on a compromise.

  1. Cell Phones

Keep still or your tattoo will suck. Texting, playing games, reaching for it, editing Gramma's birthday photos can wait. Some artists go crazy with the flinching wiggling while you play with your phone, putting your tattoo at risk.

  1. Not Tipping

If you really want to be the worst customer of the day, not tipping is the fastest way to win the award. Just like any service, tipping 10 -20 percent is standard in the industry. If your tattoo is already super expensive and you scrapped and saved for it, it's a good idea to save a little extra to compensate a job well done. Unless you had a horrible experience and can't even believe you had to pay for a botched tattoo to begin with, you must tip your artist.

  1. Ignoring Aftercare

If you're going to take your new back piece to the tanning beds the next day, that's your business. But don't complain (about your artist or to your artist) that the colors have faded or you've gotten a nasty infection. Most likely, you will be given a tattoo aftercare sheet at the parlor, and your artist will be happy to answer any questions you have. Otherwise, that beautiful piece of art could get seriously ruined.

HAPPY TATTOOING!

Grande Prairie Pet Food & Dog Groomer - Rebecca Hayes-Copeland

GIVE YOUR DOG A JOB

Christmas is fast approaching and with that comes holiday cheer and company. Are you cringing at the thought of yur pup jumping all over company? Counter surfing some delicious delights away from the guests perhaps? Every year, I am flooded with calls regarding problems with dogs and the deadline of expected company for the holidays.

The best piece of advice I can give is, GIVE YOUR DOG A JOB! Instead of trying to put out the fire by just stopping your dog once they are already doing the mischievous deeds (jumping for example), put a plan into action before guests arrive. If your dog has a job to do (stay on a mat for example), they aren't jumping on guests. Chew a bone in the living room and teach your dog to stay out of the kitchen.

Identify your areas of concern, and see if you can find a job for your dog to do instead. An employed dog is a dog that is not getting into trouble, and that makes you one happy owner.

Christmas is fast approaching! Don't forget to book your pup's grooming appointments early! Spots fill up quickly and you don't want to be left out in the cold! Call 780-513-4074 today!
